Always take the leap of faith.... and Jump In!

Where am I now?

Loving events, during my HND at South Lanarkshire College, I was undertaking a unit named- “Managing an Event”. This was to be completed as group work, therefore one of my classmates Taylor and I paired up to complete the project. We decided to host an EK Bake Off, as the bake off was our favourite TV programme.... and  I love baking …seemed like the right thing to do ....Although I am terrible at baking... but I do love eating cakes….. so basically that was it decided. The theme for this event was to involve the community and to bring people together. I firstly suggested a sports day at a local primary school… however my inspiring lecturer Tarryn convinced me to challenge myself with something completely different to shows, or sports competitions ….. BAKE OFF IT IS!

The day of the bake off was a phenomenal success, we put so much time into contacting the venue, bringing in EK community trust, and event influences to attract people towards this event. I focused on social media awareness and deigning the quirky posters. We decided with each ticket you could enter 1 cake within the Amateur or Professional Category with specific requirements (2 layered sponge with great flavour and distinctive design …. NOT because butter icing is my favourite…… ) for the chance of winner a large Chocolate HAMPER by the one and only KIMBLES Chocolate store OMG YUMMMMMMM. The judges consisted of baking professionals (1x baking student, 2x independent professional bakers). From the Facebook event we expected around 32 people attending, on the day, however the event attracted over 80 people reaching maximum capacity of the East Mains Baptist Church community hall!!! With 17 amateur cake submissions and 4 professional cakes (that people could try after) It was a DELICIOUS SUCCESS! Taylor and myself also had to bring out more tables and chairs as more customers arrived. Many tickets were bought on the door as the event had a GOOD BUZZ around it. Many people also brought donation cakes which could be placed on the cake stands on each table …more CAKES!!!! Also my wonderful friends and family members supplied donated cakes  (this was included in ticket price- £5 for unlimited tea/ coffee and cakes! YES SUITS ME). We ended up with SO MANY CAKES!!!! I honestly eat cake for weeks …. It was amazing! The event was a wonderful success!! The main aim of the event was to bring the community together but we managed to achieve an amazing amount of money.to give to the EK Community Trust, with our sell out event and raffle tickets. We made £680 to get transferred back into the community... GOOD FEELING and  I would actually love to do another one…

Exactly 3 weeks after this event, I had signed up to take part In ERASMUS (abroad working internship), and from the options, I choose Madrid, Spain!! I can honestly say it was the experience of a life time. I have never moved away before (especially to a different country) but I just had to do it. I moved away for just over 2 months and lived within the vibrant and quirky city centre of Madrid! It was AMAZING!! Adjusting to a brand-new culture, working within a modern and business University- Universidad Europa de Madrid, cooking, cleaning, finding my own fitness resume and drinking lots of wine and eating tapas (all for the experience of course). I grew massively as a person, I became independent and was setting myself goals for the future. Plus, my fabulous friends and family Amanda, Lisa, mum and dad auntie Carol came over to visit me. I showed them my favourite roof top bars and tapas restaurants, San Miguel market, the Royal Place as well as the famous shopping street Plaza Mayor. My favourite thing to do was get up early find a cute little café, and sit outside in the sun and have my morning café con leche. ohhh and the late-night dinners ALWAYS containing Vino Blanco. I had many funny moments in Madrid… prior to moving I took beginners Spanish lessons… Si, Si, Si or my favourite sentence “Hola! Me llamo Louise. Soy de Escocia” However there is a MASSIVE difference to when you are actually there! No one understood me but I always gave them a laugh when I tried- with my yet black hair and tanned skin everyone I mean everyone  thought I was Spanish…..

From returning home, I began my journey at University of West of Scotland (3rd year), I do enjoy university life, however studying is hard and takes over…. but I work hard and believe it will all be worth it in the end. It has been hard not being able to train circus, but I keep my mind and body active by running to ensure I be the best I can be! Its also very motivating to always have something in front of you to challenge you. .... in fact me and Andrew have signed up as a team to complete the world’s most intensive SPARTAN Races! Sprint, Super, & Beast! (5K, 10K and Half Marathon! with over 30 intensive/challenging obstacles) Wish me luck!!

Circus, Circus, Circus

Why not? Let’s join the circus! From being involved with trampolining, I began to love watching a variety of acrobatics and I absolutely idolised Cirque Du Soleil. At the international trampolining competitions talent scouts were always present and I was looking out for them... and trying to get their attention.... I do enjoy the spotlight may I add.....  I have  submitted a show reel to Cirque.... however, nothing came of it, as I was too young or didn't have the specific skills as required ...a little sad but I had to ensure that didn't demotivate me.  For my 15 th Birthday, my mum gave me a voucher  to take a friend with me and attend a "Circus Blast" at one of the Circus’s in Glasgow- Spinal Chord.  She thought it would be a fun experience to go along and "give us a laugh". I went along with one of my school friends and I absolutely loved it.... but wow I had no upper body strength....  NOW ... I found this was my new passion... .Performi

Go Team GB

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my first blog post. I would like to begin by sharing my experience with my love of trampolining. You must fall in love with the sport and i believe that is the true secret to success.  Trampolining has this feeling of wonder, joy and empowerment. It brings a variety of people together with the same drive and passion. Those who know me well, will probably remember me bouncing around or always training and being away for competitions… yip that’s me! It all began with my mum taking me to a trampoline recreational class at age 4 down at the local high school… from there I was straight away recruited by East Kilbride Trampoline Club, where I trained for 15 years continuously. Sport is so important, you build friendships that are rare and meaningful, your team will support you and see you at your highest highs and lowest lows. I met many amazing people during my time at EKTC who I am still best friends with now. #Trampolinefamily In 2009 I complete
